More Photoshopping

So I came across this great tutorial. He shows a much easier way to 'burn' the edges of a photograph, easier than my way. I also learned the background of cross color. I think the above picture looks great, but with a little added extras, it looks so much better. I love the results.

This picture need a lot of work: I had to get the surrounding people out, did a little cross color and vignette (burn the edges) and I kept Steve's hand in, even though it looks a little creepy, because he was splashing her. It just made sense to leave him in. When Steve downloads our photos, he has them at such high resolution, that when I crop them, they still look crisp. I think the results on this one are amazing.

Lego Party

The day was a blur for me. It was very hot and humid and I didn't stop moving all day long.
Justin before the party in his Lego shirt all ready to party.
This was the only good shot of them together. He LOVES that action figure he's holding. Can you tell by the expression on his face?
I made this six out of Lego scrapbook paper, it took longer than you would think but he loved it.
Decorating was pretty easy this year, there aren't any Lego theme party supplies so I just used the standard Lego colors and printed some Lego signs off the computer and was done.

We had a huge turnout, there were even more kids not pictured that didn't want to stop playing.

Games were played. Steve failed to take any pictures of the wheel so here's what it looks like:

I didn't make the cake. I ordered it, undecorated and made the Lego font letters and used new minifigures to finish it off.
Justin beaming at the cake. I was pleased with the way it turned out.

The prize table.
The frenzy to cash in their tickets.
Legos!

Our wonderful guests (I appreciate every one of them, pictured or not):
Bella, Lainy, Chavela, Star
Ashlee and her BF Luke
Kat playing the the B'loonees I gave her.
Julia & Isla
Tristan & Julia
Maya
Gabriel
Noah & Julia
Theresa & Joanna
It was a fun party (at least that's what everyone told me). Justin had a great day, brought all his new Lego sets inside and patiently waited for Steve to build them. He got 7 sets of Legos and when I asked him what he wanted to spend his b-day money on, he said 'more Legos'. Um, I think he has enough for now.

Fishing

This summer Steve started Justin fishing. This was his first attempt.
His 2nd attempt.
His 3rd attempt. And many more after this.....
Finally, Justin caught his first fish!!! We're so proud!

More Actions

The original above looked so depressing. I had to play around with it. I did some shadow elimination, contrasting and played with color, adding some green (that reminds me of older pictures I own - I'll post them for fun). I think the results are dreamy.
Some may not like the color enhancement but I just asked Isla which she liked better and she said the bottom one.
This was the same day, later on Aunt Lainy's boat. It was overcast and very gloomy, which is why all the pictures are so dark and grayish. All I did for this one was upped the contrast and added some blue tones.
When I first saw what actions could do and researched on how to create my own, I was very intimidated. I figured, these actions were so expensive, it has to be a difficult thing to pull off. The more I do, the easier it seems to be. Where I lack in camera, I'm trying to make up for in photoshop. We have a nice camera but I'd love an SLR someday.

Taking Action

For those of you familiar with actions, you know that they can be very expensive. I've never been able to justify paying that much, nor do I have the money to splurge. There is so much info online about enhancing pictures in Photoshop. If you just read a little here, a little there, you can pull off what those expensive actions do. I know I haven't even scratched the surface on what I can do but just a few tips found on Photoshop websites have been priceless to me.
For this picture, I erased all the people in the water out, to make her stand out more. She looked too shadowy to me, so I adjusted her to the background so she lightened and kept the background the same. Next I played around in color, adding some green. I love the results, I think it went from drab to magical. Yes, magical.

How We Celebrated the Fourth

This first picture looks odd, doesn't it? Well, it's because I made a little treasure hunt for the kids and it started in the basement. The first clue was the dryer. I spent very little money - $5 on each kid and filled up brown paper bags and a clue to the next spot.
This is their first 'treasure'.
Here's another....
Glow sticks for later that night at fireworks.
Whistles.
There were more that I didn't show (7 treats for each) but the kids loved it so much, they talked about it all morning like it was the greatest thing they ever did. Next we went to the parade. Justin loved watching and running for candy.
Isla had other plans. She found a dog and preferred to hold him than to watch the parade and run for candy.
Later that night we went to fireworks. They were amazing. Isla fell asleep, Justin got bored half way through but it was still fun. Earlier in the day I made these confetti balloons and Justin had fun popping them. They made quite the mess in the backyard and Steve told me I had to pick up every last piece. Have you ever seen anyone vacuum the backyard? Well, I had to.

Stillwater

We had so much fun visiting Lainy's family at their campsite at Stillwater. Justin is still talking about it. It's so beautiful.
When Justin is around older boys, he has to do whatever they are doing. He's proving to be a daredevil, in my eyes anyway.
When the tube accidently flipped over and they had to swim to the site, you'd normally hear a frightened Justin, but with the older cousins around, he acted like it didn't even bother him.
Isla preferred to play on the boat while the others swam...that's so Isla. When our kids get together, they get along so well. It was fun watching them play together in the sand and water.
